Audio Clips

Why

  • It's easy to create a short audio clip.
  • Being able to describe information verbally is a crucial skill. It helps in creating accessible content for people with visual impairments and delivering more effective teaching where it is helpful to explain concepts, charts or graphics more thoroughly than through text.
  • Audio clips can be great for adding an authentic and human touch to information.

Good to know

  • Always include a transcript of audio files.
  • ELT can help you add audio clips to digital learning materials if it is not clear how to do so.
  • There are several tools for recording voice only. Windows Sound Recorder is nice because it is already installed with Windows 11.

Example

An audio description can accompany a complex graphic or infographic.

this is an example of an infographic, it is about buying a quarter of beef but the point is to illustrate a typical infographic format.

Transcript: If you're considering buying a quarter of beef, here's what to expect, based on information from the University of Minnesota Extension.
A typical quarter from a 1300-pound animal yields about 142 pounds of meat. This includes a variety of cuts like ribeye and T-bone steaks, several roasts, and a large portion of ground beef, usually between 35 and 60 pounds.
To store this amount, you'll need at least 4.5 cubic feet of space in a chest freezer or 5.5 cubic feet in an upright one.
For the cost, you'll pay for your quarter share of the animal, plus your portion of the processing fees. It's an efficient way to stock your freezer with a variety of quality beef.
